February 14th is Valen… Angry Birds day
Forget poking: from February 14th, show you love someone by flinging a mis-tempered avian toward them. It’s Valentines Day that Angry Birds will finally arrive on the ubiquitous social network — just in time to ensure half the coupled population of the world misses its dinner reservation, in order to get past one more level. The basic game will be free, but upgrades like the Mighty Eagle, double-sized birds, an earthquake weapon and a max-strength catapult will cost you. It’ll be launched in Jakarta around the same time you offer up that heart-shaped box of chocolates, so if you want to ensure the day remains romantic, we’d suggest waiting until the 15th before installing.

Mitoza is a fun, freaky Web toy with an artistic look
While not a game per se, I found Mitoza intriguing enough to spend quite some time with it. You start off with a seed, and are then presented with two choices: you can either click a flower pot, or click a cute little birdie.
If you click the flower pot, a flower pot appears and the seed is planted inside. You’re then presented with two further choices — a water can or a bottle of fertilizer. Each choice you make causes your creation to morph, and presents you with two other choices.
There’s no winning or losing, really. Each “game” usually lasts around four or five choices, at which point the plant/animal dies in some creative (but not too gruesome) way. At this point you instantly start over with a new seed.
The graphics are captivating; the whole thing has a cinematic feel to it, with a bit of artificial camera shake added for style.
All in all, it’s a fun, peaceful way to spend a few minutes, and it might even make you think a little bit while you’re at it.

HTML5 MP3 player lets you listen to your music library inside your browser

Just fire up http://antimatter15.github.com/player/player.html in your HTML5-compatible browser and browse to the topmost folder in your music library. The app will quickly build an index of all your tunes and let you start listening right inside your Web browser. Click on the filter library text, and you can enter a search string — results load as you type.
There’s a volume control, shuffle mode, play/pause control, and you can click and drag to skip forward or rewind during playback. As OMG! Ubuntu points out, you can even save the app to your hard drive and run it offline, which is pretty darn cool.
Not all browsers are equal when it comes to HTML5 implementation, of course. We found that Chrome worked the best, and Firefox was OK. It’s also worth noting that this music player comes from the same developer that created one of our favorite restartless Firefox 4 add-ons, drag2up.

Intel bolsters video patent portfolio with purchase from RealNetworks
Silicon juggernaut Intel has inked a multi-million dollar deal with RealNetworks, agreeing to purchase scores of video-related patents and annex an entire software team. Specifics of the accord have Intel shelling out $120 million in exchange for 190 patents, 170 patent applications and a video codec development squad. In addition, the two companies have signed a “memorandum of understanding,” agreeing to collaborate on future development of the licensed software. RealNetworks states that the sale “will [not] have any material impact on its businesses” and it will retain “certain rights” to the sold technologies. Intel says the sale will improve its ability to “offer richer experiences and innovative solutions [...] across a wide spectrum of devices.” The full PR is queued up for you after the break.

Burrito Bison is a simple game for gummy bear lovers
Burrito Bison is a pretty simple game, but if you’re into gummy bears you might find it addictive.
As you may have guessed from the name, you’re a bison (not a burrito, though). In the course of your day-to-day grocery shopping, you’re abducted into a bag of gummy bears, and must now fend for yourself.
At the beginning of each round you launch yourself onto the marching gummy (gummi?) bears, while you’re being watched by a huge crowd of even more gummy bears. Your goal is to keep bouncing on the bears and earn more and more money while you do it. Every time you hit a gummy bear, you lose some momentum. If you hit the floor, you basically lose all of it.
But don’t give up just yet! You have an emergency thrust which you can use to gain some momentum and keep bouncing on those bears. This extra thrust gets refilled as you hit more bears.
There are also special gummy bears that give you extra thrust or extra money. The money comes in handy at the end of each round, when you can shop for cool stuff to make your bison even more effective against those gummy bears.
It’s a fun and colorful game that kept my interest for quite some time, and almost sent me running to the closest store to get some gummy bears!

AVG launches LiveKive cloud sync and backup tool

A while back, we told you about AVG’s new LiveKive service, a new cloud synchronization and backup tool which appears to have been named after a vat in which mash is made during the brewing process. But enough about AVG’s odd choice of monikers — LiveKive has launched and is now ready to accept your files into the AVG cloud.
LiveKive takes aim at services like Dropbox and SugarSync, though at the moment it’s lagging behind in terms of features. As it stands, LiveKive is only compatible with Windows and OS X. There are no mobile clients yet, though with AVG’s strong presence on Android we wouldn’t be surprised to see an app arrive in the near future.
The company is offering a heck of a deal right now, however. If you sign up for a paid account during the launch phase, you can score unlimited storage for $80 for a whole year. You can’t even score 50GB per year at that price from Dropbox, so if cost and space are more important to you than cross-platform availability, LiveKive might be worth checking out.
If you’re not interested in ponying up any cash at the moment, you can still get a 5GB account free of charge. Just head on over, and create a LiveKive account.

The Power A Batarang Wired Xbox 360 Controller Is Your Not-A-Real-Batarang Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]
So how do we feel about Microsoft and Sony waiting until 2013 or 2014 to put out their new systems? With the pace of phones moving so quickly, tablets popping out like companies have indigestion and even laptops becoming more ultra every year, it seems like game consoles have become forgotten technology. But! We would scream foul if xboxes and pee ess threes were updated every year right? Maybe? Probably. I’m just surprised at how much I still enjoy my Xbox still. I guess game consoles have evolved to a point past just games. Is that fulfilling their destiny or ignoring their strengths? I DON’T KNOW. I also don’t know why you would buy a third party controller for the Xbox because the one that comes with it is so awesome. To each his own!
